What is the Fair Market Value on my receipt?All gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law. When gifts exceed the specific need of a project, or due to unforeseen circumstance the project cannot be fully completed, funds will be used for similar ministry purposes, broadcasting, or other important outreaches of LIFE (Ezra 7:17-18) The Internal Revenue Service and the Canada Custom and Revenue Agency require the fair market value of items received in exchange for your gift to be deducted from your gift. This means only the part of your donation, which exceeds the "fair market value," can be claimed as a charitable deduction on your income tax return. However, due to other IRS code, some gifts are fully deductible if they meet specific criteria. If you are to receive a "thank you gift" and your receipt has no fair market value deduction, we were able to meet the criteria. More importantly, please know that our costs to secure "thank you gifts" are significantly lower than the fair market value. What percentage of your money is spent on missions?LIFE strives to keep all costs to a minimum, while maximizing every gift for ministry and mission work. LIFE has been a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) since 1993. LIFE registers with the Better Business Bureau annually. A copy of the audited financial statement is available on request. The latest published financial information is posted under "Donations > Accountability" and reports expenses. Past outreaches have taken place in the following countries: Venezuela, Bosnia, Egypt, Croatia, Nigeria, Yugoslavia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Somalia and Togo.Can I volunteer at a LIFE program overseas?LIFE Outreach International is not a sending ministry. In the mission field, we serve with established mission organizations that have their own trained and experienced personnel. This is more cost effective. Mission opportunities through our mission partners are possible, but determined by them. Our ministry partners require an application or resume, a reference from your pastor, and an interview. Volunteers selected and sent to the mission field bear financial responsibility, including round-trip airfare and incidentals.AIMS, Accelerating International Mission Strategies, is an excellent organization to contact to ask questions regarding serving in the mission field. They provide a free publication entitled "The World Christian Expedition," which lists 90 different "sending agencies," seeking or providing short-and long-term mission opportunities.
